The Research Group
ReCOL stands for Knowledge Representation, Ontologies and Language. The Group is certified by The National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development and conducts collaborative research in Knowledge Representation and Knowledge Organization. Our work is lead by researchers mainly from The Federal University of Minas Gerais and The Getúlio Vargas Foundation.

Organization and Activities
The ReCOL integrates multidisciplinary efforts towards improvements in Knowledge Representation and Knowledge Organization. The Group relies on approaches from Information Science and sometimes in collaboration with other related fields, particularly, Philosophy, Linguistic and Computer Science.
The ReCOL is organized according to thematic axes under the responsibility of PhD and post-doctorates qualified researchers. In some cases, graduate students also conduct selected phases of scientific projects. ReCOL researches have a diverse expertise giving the group the multidisciplinary balance encouraged in Information Science.
Several activities performed by the group reflect its scientific, academic, and consulting orientation:
- Information Science research collaboration with national and international partners
- Article publication in scientific conferences, journals, and contributions to books
- The promotion and organization of scientific events
- Research education for graduate students and basic education for undergraduate students
- Research & Development projects including technology transference
- Implementation of prototypical technological tools anchored in Information Science theories

- Contribute to the scientific advance of Information Science with cutting-edge research of international level
- Generate knowledge for the education of students in graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as to foster advances in the processes of knowledge organization, representation and retrieval
